Paperhouse is the film adaptation of a book called Marianne Dreams, which my best friend raves about, and which I've never read. We watched the film on Tuesday night, as far as the silhouette on the horizon, and then both decided it was too scary, so we stopped it. After taking a few minutes to recover, we watched the rest, muted and on fast forward, to exorcise the scariness. It's a 15 certificate.

Marianne Dreams is worth a read...I suppose it's fair to say it's scary in a nightmarish/surreal fashion rather than a 'horror' fashion.

Hrm, I think I'd find watching that interesting :)

*nods* - I can see why they might drop the stones - while they are menacing in the book/mind's eye, I think trying to put them into a film version would run the risk of making them comic.

I *believe* I've seen Paperhouse - quite a few years ago, if that's possible. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I enjoyed it very much.

I've never been scared by a movie, or indeed shocked by one (having now seen Romance, Baise-Moi *and* Irreversible). I wish I was less inured.

Does the ick threshold not count as being shocked?
