My tutor didn't expect the members of the class to know the words 'flouting' and 'meta'. This seems rather pessimistic to me. Do I underestimate my own vocabulary?

Strictly speaking, I'm not sure that "meta" is a word. Or at least I suspect that your tutor probably prefers to use it only as a prefix ;-)

Of course it's a word - it means "with" and takes the genitive, I believe.
