Shiny!

I have a new computer¹. There are lots of ways the two computers will talk to each other directly, but apparently the fastest way of transferring my gigs and gigs of stuff is via my ipod, which strikes me as a bit strange (I'm typing this on the new one while the old one copies stuff onto said ipod).

I'm happy, anyway. The new puter has arrived at the last possible moment to enable it to come to the US to meet unknownid & E, adamsmithjr, F & S, and onyxblue1, the_original1 & 'Thing 3'². Hoorah! And the hotel we're in this weekend has free wireless internet. I may never leave the room^3,4 :-)

¹Maybe I should remake this icon with a slightly smaller laptop!

²A moment of boredom lead to me reading dead OT threads on Patchwork Universe, which led to the realisation that they live near⁵ where I'll be, twiddling my thumbs while smiorgan talks about swords. Hoorah!

⁴This also means I may be around on Patchwork during my advertised absence, but I don't know how much.

⁵That's the US version of "near", which seems rather further away than the UK one would ;-)

Variations on near-Chicago, Baltimore, Washington and New York. Ooh! Are you in Baltimore? Maybe we should meet up! We're staying with N&E for at least some of the time, flying in on Tuesday.

hey, that'd be great! yup, i'm in baltimore. i haven't seen N&E in, wow, a year or more, despite living only 10 minutes away. they kinda dropped off the face of the earth for a while. maybe i can dig up their phone number...

We asked Things One and Two at dinner tonight if they'd rather visit Honey Grandma (my mom) or go with us. They, strangely enough, wanted to go with us! So there'll be a whole passel of us.:-)

Before I forget, while you're here, you have to try fried cheddar cheese curds. I don't believe they're available anywhere else in the country but Wisconsin and northern Illinois. I always tell people how wonderful they are, and people always look at me like they'd like to give me a nice lounge jacket with extra super long sleeves.:-)

I had deep fried cheese curds the last time I was in Minnesota, and they were great. We also had some fried walleye - lunch at the Mall of America.
