Time off work
Nov. 22nd, 2002 03:15 pmWe're tidying. Really we are. I'm not writing this, and he's not blowing up some unspecified bad guys.
Y'see, I'm having a party tomorrow. If you know where this party is likely to be (my house), you're probably invited. If I haven't invited you specifically, it's probably to do with new(ish) job, and new computer, and consequently lost email addresses.
So, we're trying to tidy in a more permanent way - previous bouts of tidying have concentrated on having a particular room tidy for a particular event, with the related de-tidying of another room (often the study, cos it's generally quite tidy, and therefore has lots of space to be de-tidied ;-)
Unfortunate side-effect: there's all kinds of cool stuff lurking under piles of paper, or hiding behind chairs, so we're making slow progress.
OK, we're also making slow progress cos we're currently spodding. Never mind.
I had a birthday
I had a birthday. It was yesterday. I don't believe in working on my birthday, so I didn't. I had a long lie-in (with Tom Stoppard), mooched around, cooked lovely lovely fish pie, and did the normal Thursday night thing of Buffy (season 7 imported weekly by CD from the States), West Wing and wine, with the addition of fine chocolate goop, and honey and ginger cake. And then some hanging out with the Thursday night posse, and a couple of additions. Fun. I got to say 'you can't <insert nasty thing here> cos it's my *birth*day', which is always fun ;-) No pressies yesterday, but I got three early ones, all fine, so I'm happy :-)
Missing Jo
It's strange. So much of our friendship has been conducted electronically, that you don't feel as gone as I expected. We're still talking about most of the same stuff we would talk about if you were here, and although there's less of the quick-fire email conversations, that's got to be partly cos, since you've been gone, we've only overlapped in our respective offices by one day. I've been thinking about creating you a Friends group all on your own, in case I want to say stuff in here that I would ordinarily say to you in person, but that's probably silliness. And still probably uncomfortably too public ;-) So probably not.
Gotta get back to it now. New and exciting treasures to be discovered in the unexplored corners of the library.

Date: 2002-11-22 07:59 am (UTC)I'll explain better. I'm always of the opinion that it's worse to be left behind, because your life stays the same but minus somewhere. In moving away, my life has changed radically, and although I'm missing my friends, well some of them, I'm getting the chance to do things I can't do at home - I'm getting a lot of much needed alone time for example, I've got no commitments so I can do what I want when I want. I suspect the novelty will wear off shortly.
It would be nice to be able to exchange more private stuff, especially gossip.......if other people can't get at it.\
So who was there last night? Did you get to shout 'it's my birthday so stop getting off in the corner, get a room, we don't care?'

Done.
