Sorry. The last entry wasn't supposed to be in here, it was supposed to be in
hurtyhead, my headache diary (no point going to read, all the entries are locked. Not to mention very dull). Head hurts. Brain not working. Thanks for the sympathy, though ;-)
Normal service will be resumed soon.

Date: 2004-07-27 09:14 am (UTC)Since you're a veteran, any advice on what works? I've tried all the over-the-counter painkillers apart from Ibuprofen (which makes me sick), and they don't work, and now I've tried a kind of prescription painkillers, and they don't work either. Grr.

I have lived since I was 17 with a constant ambient level of tension headache which is worse some days and better than others. About twice a year I have a serious attack (usually at night) which leaves me ill for a couple of days and I usually have to take at least one day off work with it.
There is a new drug on the market called Syndol which contains anti-inflammatories and a muscle relaxant and I have had some limited success with this, but as I said, nothing has ever completely gotten rid of it for me.
Other than that, I had some success when I was 19 by doing the following:
No Caffiene
No refined sugar
No alcohol (beginning of my body's problems with the stuff)
20 mins mediatation a day
Neck and shoulder aromatherapy massage once a week
Couple of Hypnotherapy sessions.
Removal of all possible sources of stress from my life.
I decided to keep the headaches.
I have heard theories that botox can be used to treat tension headaches but I don't know how true this is.
At about 18 I stopped going to see Dr's about my headache. I had been on four separate occasions with increasing doses of powerful drugs which left me feeling like a zombie but still with the pain. Things may be different now but I haven't gone back to check.

Thanks for sharing. Argh. That's one of those phrases that's almost never used 'straight' any more! I mean it sincerely - thanks.

Please accept my sympathy, I know how terrible they are.
