triskellian: (wedding)

Lots of people have already written about the wedding, when their memories were fresher than mine is now (and I've thoroughly enjoyed reading about the day from other people's point of view), but I'd like to have a written record of some of my recollections...

  • I served myself one of [livejournal.com profile] leathellin's yummy scones, and decided to eat it while wandering around talking to people. Half an hour later, I realised I'd spoken to lots of people, but only managed one bite of my scone, so I sat down to eat it, and dragged people over to sit with me as they went past.
  • Hearing Mike, Andrea and Char practicing while we were having our last minute chat with the registrar. I'd heard recordings of the song before, but I hadn't heard them performing it, and even though I know how good all three are at what they do, it still took me by surprise.
  • Walking up the aisle with [livejournal.com profile] smiorgan, and the bridesmaids behind us, and seeing a huge mass of our favourite people, all turned to look at us and smiling, with the fairy lights and gold fabric and flowers and balloons behind them, and the registrar standing at the table at the top of the aisle. It was the most exciting walk I've ever taken :-)
  • Being terrified that I was going to mumble or stutter, or otherwise mess up the vows.
  • The registrar saying that people could come up and take photos of us signing the register, and it suddenly seemed that all of the people who had been sitting behind us were in front of us, taking photos.
  • Standing among the massed horde for the 'friends' group photos, and shouting over to Fran that she should stop taking photos and come and be in one.
  • Spending hours dancing. Every time I thought I might go and have a rest, [livejournal.com profile] onebyone and [livejournal.com profile] kauket played another song that I had to dance to. My parents were keeping a cold glass of water for me on their table, and every now and again, I'd go over there, still dancing, drain the water, hug my parents, and bounce back over to the dancefloor.
  • Realising I'd torn my bodice (too much dancing ;-) and not caring as long as I could find something else to wear that meant I could carry on dancing. I ended up in a bra belonging to Andrea, who's not remotely the same size as me, and a T-shirt of [livejournal.com profile] blondeccgirl's which said 'Area of outstanding natural beauty' across the chest. Apparently, my dad (really rather drunk) told her off for the T shirt when he found out it was hers ;-)
  • Deciding that I wanted to be caught smoking by my parents, and then them not walking past for ages afterwards. When my dad finally appeared, he asked for a drag of the clove cigarette I'd stolen from [livejournal.com profile] unknownid, but decided he didn't like it.
  • Doing skirt-swishing dancing with [livejournal.com profile] killalla
  • Smiling so much my face hurt, but being unable to stop because I was so happy and having such a great time.

There are probably loads of others which are going to come back to me as soon as I post this, but it's a start.

Have you seen Toy Story 2 ?

You'll understand when you've seen it. Your comment is very similar to something one of the characters says in one of the (fake) 'outtakes' shown at the end. (I would give more detail, but it would be a mild spoiler and I hate it when people spoiler me, so...)

Sounds like you managed to concentrate on the things which were unique to the day. The things you were distracted from can be tried again, at your leisure.

So that's the right way around! Congrats. :)

Yay!

Swishy skirt dancing is teh coolest! Speaking of dance, I need to plug my class to you and all and sundry in Oxford who are interested - Beginners Bellydance, taught by yours truly: Monday nights, 7:00-8:00 pm, St. Barnabas School in Jericho. 15-20 pounds (Final cost TBD) per term for membership of the OU Middle Eastern Dance Society - includes at least 8 classes (more if you feel ready and want to take Intermediate as well), not to mention halflas, reduced rates for workshops, etc.
