Purple socks, food and knitting, or, two reasons for <user site="livejournal.com" user="secretrebel"

At long last, I am able to return to my rightful place at the head of the Purple Sock Friday cult. After many long months of being unable to find any purple socks, not even for ready money, I struck gold in John Lewis in Milton Keynes yesterday! To make up for the terrible time when I was unable to make my observances, these socks are two colours of purple (stripy) and over-the-knee, so even more purple sockage per Friday. Hoorah!

Thanks for the sympathy about my absence of wisdom tooth the other day - it's much better now, and last night I made my first foray into not-soft food, at blondeccgirl's birthday dinner. The highlight of the soft food period was being unable to eat any of the lunch provided at the course I was on (Introduction to PHP) on Wednesday, so I had to go to G&D's* for icecream and a smoothie for lunch ;-)

*George & Davis, Oxford's 'famous' ice cream cafe. No, not a cafe made of ice cream.

In knitting news, I've finished my Rogue cardigan, and am very pleased with myself. And while buying socks in John Lewis I seem to also have bought yarn, most of which is not yet earmarked for a pattern. I like the pure potential of the yarn before I've decided what to do with it - it could still be anything (well, anything made of fine and fluffy dark red silk-and-mohair and/or dark grey merino aran. Ooh, there's a thought: "and"...). What I should have bought is scarf yarn for secondhand_rick, but they didn't have any of the right sort.

One of the things I most love about artwork is the feeling of looking at a clean page of good quality cartridge paper (the chunky 150gsm stuff) and wondering what I'm going to draw on it.

Sounds like pretty much the same thing with yarn.

Yep. The trouble with yarn, though, is it gets really expensive, really quickly (well, it needn't, but I'm not interested in the potential of cheap acrylic). And you have to buy it in fairly large quantities for the potential to be worth having (not much potential in one ball) ;-)

Hee hee! There was some of the right texture, and technically the right colour, but I think the colour had too much pink in it and you'd have dismissed it as girlie. And there was some in the right colour, but it was too thin (I don't like you enough to knit you a scarf out of thin yarn - it'd take a million years and be really boring).

I seem to remember that the last time I was in G&Ds, my companion had something like a spam smoothie, so you could have an entire meal there covering all major food groups if you were so inclined. I myself stuck to the more civilised green tea ice cream. Wisdom tooth empathy, anyway.

In honour of you I happened to pick my purple socks as well this morning although I haven't checked that my PA was wearing hers (an office rule I started on Fridays).

But Rogue looks amazing, in fact so amazing I may have to make it myself once I have finished all the socks I am doing for Christmas.

Rogue's lovely. I heartily recommend it (both pattern and garment), and shall enthusiastically show it (and yesterday's haul) to you tomorrow. There's acres of stocking stitch, but almost all of it also has cabling on the same row, so it doesn't get boring.

Also I wasn't wearing my purple socks. Eek! I have now rectified this. Perhaps I should keep some at work just in case I make such a mistake again while gainfully employed?

I had purple shoes. They made my feet hurt and it made me very sad. So I walked home with no shoes, feeling sad. Now I curse the purple shoes.
