We had a lovely week in Cornwall - we cycled places, ate seafood, pasties* and ice cream, swam in the sea estuary (that one was just me, although [livejournal.com profile] smiorgan did paddle), went to the Eden Project (twice) and the Lost Gardens of Heligan (in the rain). Being home and at work is much less fun than being on holiday and in Cornwall :-(

In "being five" news, I have grazed my knee, punctured my hand and twisted my ankle. By falling over in the street outside my house. No, I didn't trip over anything. No, I'm not wearing stupid shoes. No, I wasn't drunk or hungover. I just fell over. I'm a big wuss, but I'm surprised how painful such trivial injuries are.

*Pasties = traditional Cornish meal of meat-gravy-vegetables in crescent-shaped pastry case. Nothing to do with strippers.

(Also: GIP. That's actually Northern Irish sea, last year, rather than this year's Cornish sea, but the icon is new even if the photo isn't.)

Ouch - you and me both. I wrenched my knee in the driveway yesterday, slipping on rain. (Well, I couldn't see anything specific that I stood on, it was all just wet.) I'm laid-up on the sofa as a result, feeling very annoyed.

But yay for Cornish pasties!

He doesn't personally toast his toasted teacakes in his café though, unless he is prone to burning them and then scraping them after somebody complains!

Not that I'm bitter or anything...

So why might I have thought that pasties had anything to do with strippers? or should I not ask? Or should I wait til I'm older to ask?

That conjures up wonderful mental images. :)

Oh.

Um.

I've just got the entire original series of The Tomorrow People. So far (two stories in), there's an awful lot of unclothed men! (Which, I suppose makes a change from the underdressed women so traditional in space).

Including David "Darth" Prowse as Coppin the Android. With a white loin cloth (complete with giant red target on his crotch). And silver pasties.

I can't find any images on line! See? Even the internet has taste!

Personally, I thought they were milk bottle tops...

You obviously didn't look at hard as I did :D

(although, admittedly, not easy to see the milk bottle tops!)

Did you see the story about the guy who swam at the North Pole the other day in -2C water? Made me think of you and your strange swimmage habits.

He said it was like a big black hole, very frightening to dive into it.

Sounds like a nice holiday. We're off on one to the North coast in a coupple of weeks which will have the sea but also mountains (including Chamois in their non-car cleaning form) and cave paintings.

I'm hoping the sea will actually be a sensible temperature for a change but it's not the med so it may be wishful thinking.

Envious. What did you think of LGs of Heligan? Are the moss maiden and the giant with bees in his ears still there?

Pasties are also found in the northern midwest states (Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, I think). From what I understand, they pronounce it to rhyme with "nasty" rather than with "hasty," which probably helps keep down any confusion with the burlesque adornments.

They hurt more as you get older I think. Actual five year olds make a huge amount of fuss, but after ten minutes have completely forgotten their injuries.

Hope you feel better soon, nonetheless. I too am a wuss about minor injuries and see nothing wrong in it. ;-)

of course they hurt more -- you have fallen much farther!

[livejournal.com profile] trisk, glad you had a nice holiday -- the pasties sound lovely, and not sequin-y at all. Hope you mend quickly from the rest!
