triskellian: (purple and shiny)

Driving into London on Saturday, I found myself behind a van decorated with pictures of Lockets (throat sweets). The van was rather faded, so the three packets depicted were all pale pastelly colours: one pink, one gold and one green.

As I drew alongside the van while overtaking it, I realised that in front of me was a pink car, to my right (overtaking me) was a gold car, and behind me a green one. All of them the same kind of faded pastel metallic as the pictures of the Lockets. To anyone not in my car the image would have been spoiled by my dark red car in the middle of it. For me it was perfect :-)

The rest of the weekend was pretty good, too...

On Saturday [livejournal.com profile] kauket, [livejournal.com profile] zenithed, [livejournal.com profile] denalyia, [livejournal.com profile] al_fruitbat and [livejournal.com profile] _alanna and I failed to save the world from Azathoth and had delivery sushi! (I wish somewhere in Oxford delivered sushi.)

On Sunday [livejournal.com profile] frax, [livejournal.com profile] ealuscerwen, [livejournal.com profile] mothsmoonflower and S joined me and [livejournal.com profile] kauket for a trip to Alexandra Palace and the Knitting and Stitching Show, at which I spent lots of money buying all the purple wool in the world. Especially lovely was the shared nature of the experience. Although I have quite a few friends who knit, most of my knitting is essentially solitary, and opportunities to talk about it in person are sadly rare (especially in semester time when all my free evenings get eaten by essays). Opportunities to buy yarn in person are similarly rare - there are two shops in Oxford which sell yarn, but one only sells cheap and nasty and the other has a very limited supply of the less interesting mass-produced high-end stuff. If I've managed to knit everything I bought this time, I might go again next year :-)

Perhaps anyone else would have concluded you were driving a strepsil?

Sorry about that, once I'd had the thought I had to get it out. Contrary to appearances, I do appreciate what you were saying.

Also, you know [livejournal.com profile] denalyia? The world is so scarily small...

I do like the idea of recycling ourselves. We should do it more!

OMG! Locket elementals!

I like your stash of purples, particularly the not-for-any-particular-project-yet blue/purple stuff. Has the flash just done funny things or does it really glow like that?

(And is [livejournal.com profile] mothsmoonflower who I think it is? I'm confused by her not having [livejournal.com profile] undyingking on her flist!)

the "flash" I mostly associate with you is the other one

...but we've only got fourteen hours to save the Earth!

meep! I didn't know about Socktopus!! *bookmarks* What else is being hidden from me? I am beginning to think all my yarn is dull by comparison...

I'll look out for that.
I probably ought to post pictures of the socks I made from Favourite socks (the front cover pair - I happened to have the right yarn lying around in my stash...)

If the second-one is Port Meadow Designs, they have a limited supply in store, but will order more or less anything from their stockists that you care to name.

Are you free and knit-capable Thursday?

True, but it's very useful when you do know pretty much what you want, and a bonus is that you can return it without faffing with postage etc. if it's the wrong colour 'in the flesh'. And I have enough single skeins of things that you can probably do the preliminary looking and touching at my place anyway. ;)
