[livejournal.com profile] smiorgan and I have just returned from a week in Cumbria (of which perhaps more later), and for the long drive up, the many drives around, and the long drive back down again, we purchased some audio books on CD. We're unlikely to relisten to them, and will want more for the next time, so (this might be a long shot) does anyone else buy audio books and would be interested in some swapping?

The ones we have are:

  • Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge
  • Lord Edgeware Dies by Agatha Christie
  • Uniform Justice by Donna Leon

This selection is much more random than it looks, because the choice in motorway services is very limited, and we were lucky. We're not terribly fussy about what we swap for, although detective fiction is particularly good for long car journeys for some reason.

I'm happy to swap by post (in the UK), so don't feel excluded if you don't live in Oxford ;-)

He's on holiday at present and not reading his LJ, but I belive [livejournal.com profile] hendybear listens to audio books quite a lot and would probably be interested in swapsies.

I'm generally trying to clear out stuff... but if you're willing to type up a list, I'll have a look.

I bought at least two of my tapes at service stations that also functioned as lending libraries - you bought the tapes initially, but if you wanted to change them, you could swap them against new ones. What a good idea! And what a shame they don't seem to do that with CDs now.

Up until now I've not purchased any such items on the basis that yes, I'd probably only listen to them once. The knowledge that some kind of easy swappsies are to hand might change this.

Charity shops tend to be riddled with the things, round here at least.

Good point, and we've got an Oxfam books and music shop here.

If you like audiobooks, take a look at audible.com - depends whether you're likely to want them regularly enough to make the subscription worthwhile, but being able to dump chunky audiofiles straight to mp3 player rather than having to CD-juggle, and having a far better selection than often available in shops, are definitely plus points :)
