Registrars

smiorgan and I have an appointment with a registrar so we can produce evidence that we're us and we live in our house, and hopefully we'll then be allowed to get married.

We also have two (is it two? I think it is) registrars booked to come and marry us one day next September. It hadn't even occured to me that we'd need to choose a time until the kind woman on the other end of the phone asked, so I said the first thing that came into my head. It sounds like a sensible time of day to get married, but no rational thought went into it at all. I expect the fact that I picked the time at random wil come back to haunt me in some currently unforeseen way.

(And I need an icon for wedding-related posts. Any volunteers to take a digital photo of my engagement ring?)

Registrars continued

An hour or so after I finish on the phone with the registrar, she calls me back to apologise for forgetting to tell me about the fee for them to come out and conduct our wedding. It's surprisingly large. I'd foolishly assumed that the registry fee was the bit mentioned by the venue as 'wedding fees' or something similar, but I'm now assuming that's just the universal hike-the-prices-up-a-bit-for-weddings that everyone seems to apply.

I wonder how much it costs just to go down to the registry office one afternoon, in our regular clothes, with a couple of witnesses in tow...
