Tori and friendship and singing

Tori on Friday night. I knew what to expect - I'd seen her twice before, read the reviews and set lists from this tour, and actually heard two of the songs she played earlier in the week, courtesy of a friend with an obsession and a mobile phone. She played some of my favourites - China (without the band) was a highlight, and finishing on Playboy Mommy was lovely. I bought a T shirt.
ealuscerwen bought the same one.
I have a theory that Tori doesn't have ordinary fans, she has devotees and obsessives. She's not at all widely known (several of my colleagues, on being told what I was doing this weekend, had never heard of her), she's never had a hit single, and yet her tours sell out pretty quickly, and people buy her albums as soon as they appear. I'm a devotee, although not quite an obsessive. She's my favourite singer, and I have all of her albums. When her singles are released in two different versions, I buy both.
Old friends. There are four of us. We've been together for a long time. We share the Tori devotion, although we've never all seen her at once. When we're together, we sing songs from Little Earthquakes - we all know all of the words. Two of us have wonderful voices, and sing professionally, the other two just do the best we can in their shadow. I don't really sing with anyone but them.
One of us is going to Australia in a week and a half, for a year. She might not come back, we don't know. We made her a scrapbook, and revisited landmarks of our teenage years, taking photos. I don't know yet if I'm going to miss her. We don't see each other often, so it's hard to tell.
