Regret

I don't regret things. My life is great as it is, and if things I could regret were different, my life would be too.

I do regret one thing, though.

I first encountered Tori Amos sometime after her first album (Little Earthquakes) came out, from hearing half of Silent All These Years somewhere, and was instantly smitten. In 1994, her second album, Under the Pink, appeared, and she toured. The nearest place she played was Cambridge, but I was slightly too young to be confident about getting there on my own, so I didn't go. She was virtually unknown, and still playing small venues. She was supported by the entirely unknown Divine Comedy, who have gone on to produce several of my favourite albums. If I'd gone, chances are high that it would have been the best gig of my life.

I discovered a week later that a friend had gone, on his own, with spaces in his car, because he thought no one else had heard of her.

I wouldn't describe myself as a Tori fan, not really, but Silent All These Years is a pretty perfect song, it's true.
