Serves me right for using an unsupported mail client mutter mutter mutter.

Anyway. Mozilla has spontaneously decided to start ignoring email attachments. On messages received before it took this decision, it still shows the paperclip icon in the message list window, but the attachments themselves no longer appear in preview pane. On messages received since, there's no sign at all of them containing attachments.

When I actually open a messages (of any vintage), the window is completely empty and doesn't even show the message contents (which do appear in preview).

Anyone got any thoughts?

Usually solves the current bug and gives you a whole new set to discover.
I'm currently having 'discussions' with my copy of Mozilla about fonts.

Oh dear. Get Netscape to look at the Mozilla mailbox and see if it is broken?

If it's obviously not a problem written to the mbox files you could try backing up your mail (hey, do you store that locally or on a server?) and then uninstalling Mozilla and doing a fresh install.

Alternatively the windows version of sylpheed/claws works well enough by importing mbox to mh format, and there should be other email clients that handle the mbox format.

I've had no problems at all with version 1.3 of Moz on Win98.

I don't use Mozilla, but I seem to recall it has a fairly agressive anti-virus feature that interacts with attachments. Could it be that this has become switched on by mistake ?

There's an option in Privacy and Security/Images which could potentially stop all image attachments showing.
Maybe.

What do you consider to be the standard version ?

Unsupported mail client

Have they actually managed to decide on a supported mail client, or is it still the bad ol' in house thing that Neil Wilson wrote?

Which was less competent than Pine, even when it was introduced, which gives you a general feeling of how inadequate it's been ever since...

OK, I've done a quick websearch on this and there are no known issues with Mozilla 1.3 which sound like what you describe.

There was a bug in 1.3a in which attachments might not be displayed if there were 2 or more, but that seems unlikely.

Also, Mozilla has a variable setting for how attachments are displayed. If you've selected "inline" this might cause odd effects.

But mostly it all sound very odd.
