An hour or so after I finish on the phone with the registrar, she calls me back to apologise for forgetting to tell me about the fee for them to come out and conduct our wedding. It's surprisingly large. I'd foolishly assumed that the registry fee was the bit mentioned by the venue as 'wedding fees' or something similar, but I'm now assuming that's just the universal hike-the-prices-up-a-bit-for-weddings that everyone seems to apply.

I wonder how much it costs just to go down to the registry office one afternoon, in our regular clothes, with a couple of witnesses in tow...

£37.50 by certificate or £46.50 by licence, apparently. this site suggests that those fees are standard across England and Wales, but that the local authority can charge what it pleases (more or less) to send out their registrars.
