Was there ever an M41? If so, was it the road which now appears to be the A3220 (or possibly some other combination of those numbers) which runs south from the A40 in the vicinity of Shepherd's Bush?

Mental note: following directions of the form 'keep going until you see the signpost for <road that doesn't exist>' is a sure way to some or all of the following:

  • Madness
  • Nearly going into the Congestion Charge zone by accident
  • Missing the support act (Asian Dub Foundation. I wasn't that interested; possibly [livejournal.com profile] smiorgan and [livejournal.com profile] onebyone were)
  • Finding lots of no right turns, one way streets, closed roads etc
  • Only being put off going through the row of cones by the police car between you and them
  • Getting depressed enough to really appreciate the subsequent Radiohead concert
  • Shouting, recrimination and hysteria

Sounds like fun

As it happens there are a number of lost motorways...

Yeah, I saw that too.2000 apparently it changed. *shrug* I don't care that much, I know that area well enough now not to need a map. :)

I think you should blame [livejournal.com profile] onebyone. Last time [livejournal.com profile] bateleur and I took him to a concert, we were late too.

We weren't as late for this as we were for the Thunder/Alice Cooper gig. I'd guess that we arrived about 2 or 3 songs into Asian Dub Foundation's set, and we could hear the rest reasonably well out in the eating area. So hardly late at all compared with the other gig, where we missed the entire never-heard-of-them first support band and all but a few songs from the Quireboys.

Yep. I nearly got caught out by this one. Managed to get it right, because it was the right exit in the right place on the right roundabout. So we ignored the signs and realised it had been renamed only after we got to the other end and it was the right place!!! At least most authorities put up 'formerly M41' type signs when they change the names! Inconsiderate Londoners.
