Dear Ms Rights Person
Please can I use some material from a book published by your company? I would like to use it in an online newsletter (it's a webpage. The last one is here), which is edited by me and the guy what wrote the book.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] triskellian
How many people will your web page be distributed to?

I suppose this is the point at which [livejournal.com profile] metame or someone points out a reason her question is sensible, but it seems pretty silly to me ;-)

That's silly.

However : "How many people will have access to your web page ?"

Might be closer to her meaning.

since you asked...

reckon so - either 'anyone', 'subscription', or 'student body' etc.

Although she might misunderstand online enough to want an estimate of usage from you.

Most probably she's bored and not thinking very hard - permissions are the dullest part of Rights jobs. You can't ignore them or copyright gets eroded, but they aren't exactly stimulating.
