Once upon a time, a fair princess woke up on a fine sunny day, and, because she was a good princess, she remembered to take her antihistamines. She went through her normal morning rituals, and then her lovely prince drove her to work.

Now, unbeknownst to our princess, some evil pollen had moved into the village where she worked. This pollen was so evil that it ignored the laws of the land about the behaviour of pollen around antihistamines, and as soon as our princess arrived at work, the pollen started to attack her. Sadly for the princess, she worked in an office which was hot and stuffy even with the windows open, and unbearable with them closed, so more and more evil pollen rushed in through the open windows to attack her. Eventually, our princess decided that the only sensible course of action was to go home again, so she set off for the bus stop (taking some work with her, because she was a good princess). The pollen saw her leaving the building, and attacked her even more vigourously, so that her pace got slower and slower as her breathing deteriorated, and she arrived at the bus stop in time to see the bus driving away. The princess waved, but the bus driver did not see her.

"What shall I do?" said the princess, her eyes streaming. Then she had an idea. She would call Fiona, the knight in shining Toyota. Soon, kind Fiona came to rescue her, and drove the princess home again. The pollen was very angry, and followed the shining Toyota, but when the princess arrived home, she shut all the doors, and went to sit inside her nice cool house, with the pollen trapped outside. It could attack her no more, and so she lived happily ever after.

The end.

Have you tried acupuncture?

I've sneezed maybe twice this year so far, and I used to be absolutely knocked out for three weeks solidly. It's good stuff, as long as you think it's going to work ;)

I don't know how well it works for allergies specifically, but with a good, trustworthy practitioner, I find it can be quite a relaxing and refreshing experience. I enjoyed it almost as much as a good massage. (Which is odd, when you consider what it involves - possibly not recommended if you have a needle phobia! Although, acupressure might work as well...)

You probably already use it, but I find that nasal spray + antihistamine tablets is more effective than tablets alone.

Go for it, its definitely worth trying. (Although I do remember a particularly delightful session when a group of students were brought in to admire my full-of-needles "Pinhead" look). And good luck - allergies are evil.

Yeah, I hate using it as well, and only bother if I'm having a bad time of it.

Buy lots of locally made honey and start eating it daily.
It reduces the symptoms dramatically as your body gets used to it.

a second opinion: (prescription steroid) nasal spray is totally disgusting, and works really really well.

I think within as far as the bees get (so 20 miles or less) is meant to be best. It's kinda a desensitisation thingy , isn't it? The bees collect local pollen and the proccessing that turns it into honey stops it being nasty but tells your body "these are friendly particles, don't be an oik and react to them , OK?"
Intelligent stuff, honey.....

Pretty essential, I'd have thought. Bees with hayfever wouldn't really be viable.
