Partially on a whim,
smiorgan and I went into Dixons this afternoon, and came out with a digital camera. In the way of new toys, it's very shiny indeed (in both the normal and Kaylee* senses of the word), and is especially shiny in association with my beloved laptop - we introduced them, and within seconds they were chatting away happily like old friends. No software, no drivers, nothing, and the puter knew straightaway that this new USB peripheral was a camera, and asked me if I wanted to launch iPhoto. Hooray!
*Kaylee from Firefly, like me, often uses 'shiny' to refer to something cool**, regardless of how reflective its surface is.
**People in general, like me, often use 'cool' to refer to something they like, regardless of temperature.
