The answers

Questions where the correct answer got the highest number of votes are marked with an *

  1. *I like arthouse films; she doesn't
  2. *We both like high school films
  3. *Neither of us like horror films
  4. *Although we both like Jane Austen, she's not either of our favourite
  5. *Margaret Atwood is my favourite, although [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel likes her too
  6. *I like Ian McEwan, but he's not my favourite; she doesn't like him much at all
  7. *Ursula Le Guin is [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel's favourite; I like her too, but not as much
  8. *We both read comics/graphic novels
  9. A bit of a red herring... Most people thought it was [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel who reads the Angel fanfic. She reads much more fanfic than me, but doesn't read Angel; I do.
  10. *She reads HP fanfic
  11. She's seen Janet Jackson in concert
  12. Although I like the Divine Comedy much more than [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel does, she's seen them live and I haven't... Or so I thought. [livejournal.com profile] smiorgan has just reminded me that I did see them live, but they were so rubbish I've blanked it out ;-)
  13. *[livejournal.com profile] secretrebel, on the other hand, really hasn't seen the Offspring, despite liking them more than I do. I have seen them.
  14. *She likes strategic board games; I don't much
  15. ...and I like Guillotine but she doesn't (although she will play it)
  16. We both dislike yellow
  17. *Purple's my favourite colour
  18. *Her favourite colour is green
  19. Although we both wear a lot of black, it's neither of our favourite colour
  20. No one bought a purple skirt
  21. I bought a white one
  22. *and she bought a green one
  23. I wear hats in summer
  24. *and she wears them in winter
  25. *She wears socks indoors
  26. *Neither of us wear shoes indoors
  27. *I go barefoot as much as possible
  28. *She's a veggie
  29. I've dated a veggie
  30. *I eat fish. Quite a few people said they thought [livejournal.com profile] secretebel ate fish and was a vegetarian, which should probably prompt some sort of 'what do you think vegetarian means anyway?' rant
  31. *Neither of us like tuna (well, actually, I do like real tuna steaks, so perhaps the question should have included the word 'tinned')...
  32. ...or eggs (I'll eat them as a sort of foil for cheese: cheese omlette, cheesy scrambled eggs, etc, and I quite like the yolk, although I really don't like egg white; she only eats them as an invisible ingredient)
  33. *She hates cucumber
  34. and I hate lettuce
  35. *I won't eat Doritos (nasty things ;-)
  36. But neither of us won't eat prawn cocktail crisps (they're yummy)
  37. I was a guide (briefly)
  38. ...and a Sea Cadet
  39. We both did gymnastics
  40. Only I was on a badminton team (although she plays badminton now, and I don't)
  41. And the netball team was just me, too
  42. *She went to private secondary school
  43. ...but we both went to state secondary schools (she transferred halfway through) (this was the question no one got right)
  44. *She's part Indian
  45. My mother was educated by nuns
  46. *Neither of us played the guitar
  47. *...but I played the clarinet
  48. She thought up the idea for the quiz (it's in my LJ 'cos she doesn't have a paid account)
  49. But it was me who had a job involving making up quiz questions (it was only a tiny part of the job)
  50. *I'm ticklish (she claims to have taught herself not to be)
  51. She's religious
  52. *I wear nail varnish (much less than I used to, but I was wearing it at the time of the quiz's invention). [livejournal.com profile] frax, I didn't penalise you for believing me when I said I didn't any more ;-)
  53. We both always wear the same earrings
  54. *She always wears the same bracelets
  55. *I have a driving licence (this is the question everyone got right)
  56. *We both own our own houses (well, our mortgage companies do, but you know what I mean)
  57. Neither of us have a first aid certificate
  58. We've both been self-employed. She still is, and I was for a deeply depressing three months before starting my current job.
  59. This was kind of a trick question: we both have a marriage plan, and fortunately, the people with whom we have them both got this question right ;-)
  60. *We both want to move to Cornwall, after spending a week there recently
  61. She usually wears a watch (I never do)
  62. *I always wear a necklace
  63. And I'm afraid it's Cobweb (mine) who's the biggest of the four cats concerned

The scoring system

  • Correct answer: 2 points
  • Answering one of us when the answer is 'both': 1 point
  • Answering one of us when the answer is the other: -1 points (credit to [livejournal.com profile] bateleur, via [livejournal.com profile] lathany, for that suggestion ;-)
  • Other answers: 0 points

I did briefly consider awarding 1 point for an answer of 'both' when the correct answer was one of us, but since the aim is to distinguish between us, I discarded the idea ;-)

I suck.

On the other hand, I did better than I expected to!

In fact, I can't understand this "can't tell the difference" malarkey at all. It just so happens that my [livejournal.com profile] secretrebel/[livejournal.com profile] triskellian skill only has about half a dot in it.

Oh yes, and how come your Wednesday comment comes before [livejournal.com profile] bateleur's Tuesday comment (which was posted on a Wednesday, but before yours), and several other Wednesday comments which appeared before yours did?

But... now the new one appears on my friends list but this one doesn't. This one does appear if I go to your livejournal page, and as you can see I can still read and comment on it.

What is going on?!

I think the quiz has done its job - it's clear that on average people can tell you apart rather well !

In fact if you remove the evil trick questions (almost every one of which I fell for) I reckon the average score would be almost 1 per question.

On the contrary... I'm frightened by how difficult some people seem to find it. Very few have more than 50%.

This is only a reasonable concern if you do a comparator quiz. If I get time, I'll try to do a "can you tell [livejournal.com profile] cardinalsin and [livejournal.com profile] frax apart?" quiz, for comparison.

My strategy of "flip a coin, and when in doubt throw yarrow stalks" clearly worked better than I could ever have hoped... though I am a bit worried that the yarrow stalk I lost underneath the SCSI stack may be starting to smell.

Quite a few people said they thought secretebel ate fish and was a vegetarian, which should probably prompt some sort of 'what do you think vegetarian means anyway?' rant

Technically I think the word is "vegaquarian":-)

Heheh. I actually quite like that as a word - even if it's lacking something as a concept.

32 ...or eggs (I'll eat them as a sort of foil for cheese: cheese omlette, cheesy scrambled eggs, etc, and I quite like the yolk, although I really don't like egg white; she only eats them as an invisible ingredient)

Hooray! I'm not a freak. Someone who feels exactly about eggs as I do! White is yucky. Eggwhite, that is.
